本年度２学期から、GSP生対象の英検＆TOEFL講座の内容が刷新されました。
英検２級以上保持者（GSP生のみ）対象に行われる本講座を、今学期からオーストラリアの私立高校で教授経験を持つGeorgia Rush先生が担当しています。
ターム留学（2019.1.27～4.6）を想定して、生徒達は「心理学」「生物」「数学」等の授業を英語で受講しています（ノートテイキングの手法等も学習）。現地校と同様の授業スタイルで進められますが、英検やTOEFL対策向けの設問を組み込むなど、工夫を凝らしたオリジナルの教材が作成されています。
受講生の約半数が英検１級や準１級保持者といった環境の中で、２級の生徒達も必死に頑張っています。
In preparation for study abroad and Eiken testing, Meiho has begun giving students sample lessons of Australian curriculum taught in English. The lessons are taught by Georgia Rush, a maths/science teacher from Melbourne, who is currently working at Meiho as an ALT from the JET Programme.
The topic of the first lesson was ‘The Brain and Nervous System’ which is covered in the Australian VCAA Unit 1 Psychology curriculum. This lesson focused on the structure and function of the brain, specifically the four lobes of the brain and their impact on the human nervous system. Students were required to actively participate in the lesson by reading out loud to the class and answering questions that were either topic-specific or vocabulary-specific. A worksheet was also provided that incorporated the psychology topic with the structure of the Eiken tests.
As the term progresses, Georgia Rush plans to continue with lessons that are extracted from the Australian curriculum, including social psychology, inheritance, evolution, linear equations and calculus.
