All students engage in English-based learning through our rigorous academic curriculum, school events, field trips and annual fall and winter camps. TYIS provides education for Grade 1-6 and has combined efforts with Tokyo YMCA International Kids Garden to create pre K / Kindergarten opportunities. TYIS teachers are diligent, caring, experienced professionals who, through positive interaction both in and out of the clasroom, make special efforts to help students reach their full potential.

TYIS uses an English-based, North American curriculum as its foundation for student education. It is the primary mission at TYIS to focus on English-literacy and to provide our students with the skill set necessary to successfully engage in all other school subject, as well as social interactions. Students learn the value and importance of language arts through a \\\"whole-language” reading and writing workshop curriculum. The program emphasizes using the essential skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing to garner meaningful expression and personal experiences. Native English competency for prospective students is not required, however, all applicants are assessed for Englsih-language skills prior to a decision of enrollment. TYIS provides an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program for students in need of extra support.
