Four scholarship students came to Jissen Gakuen from our our sister schools, Marlborough Boys’ College and Marlborough Girls’ College, in New Zealand. They stayed in Japan for 11 days, from Thursday 17 January to Sunday 27 January. The students called Ota scholars at Marlborough were hosted by Jissen students during their stay. They had various cultural experiences through their school life and homestay.
Friday 18 January was the 1st day at Jissen. They were invited to their welcome ceremony held by all the Jissen Junior students, and joined English and PE classes. Not only the students but also one teacher came as an exchange teacher from our sister school.

Saturday 19 January
They tried wearing Japanese kimono, went shopping at a supermarket, and joined music class or social studies class.

Monday 21 January
They joined math or science, and cooking classes of Year 9 and Year 13. They tried making Japanese food Takoyaki (grilled octopus-filled balls made of pancake batter) and Sushi!

Wednesday 23 January
They joined social studies, English, Japanese and PE classes, also tea ceremony after school.

Thursday 24 January
They participated in social studies, Japanese, PE classes, and so on.

Friday 25 January
They enjoyed mathematics, science or English, and visit to Hikawa shrine with some of the Year 10 students, and Japanese Calligraphy.

Saturday 26 January
Their final day at Jissen Gakuen. They were invited to their farewell party. They performed singing, dancing, and speeches, and they were given their certificate which showed that they had successfully finished their school programme at Jissen Gakuen.

We hope the scholars have returned to New Zealand safely, and are looking forward to seeing them again in the future! Thank you very much for seeing this website!
