J3 Honors students film their own advert!

Students in the Junior 3rd Grade Honors English class have been working hard this week designing and filming their own advert. This independent project forms the final part of their autumn term scheme of work, which has focused on advertising and the media.

Two weeks ago, the students were asked to brainstorm ideas for a product that they would like to advertise. They came up with the concept of ‘Burst!‘ an energy drink that that would be advertised to teenagers using the slogan ‘Go over your limit!‘.

Using ideas from classwork this term related to the connection between content, purpose, and audience in advertising, the students considered carefully how the content of their own advert might reflect their answers to the following kinds of questions;

(A) Who will this product be aimed at?

(B) What is the end goal of this advertisement?

(C) What kind of location would help engage your audience?

(D) How does your slogan catch the interest of your audience, and help you achieve your goal?

After carefully planning the adverts’ content, thinking through the location, and writing a complete script, they began filming for the ‘Burst!’ advert this week. We hope to post the finished product on the school website by the end of term. Please come back and take a look!

In the meantime, here’s a little taster of some of the work they have been doing…
