１０月４日（木）に行われた 鶴ヶ島・越生・毛呂山地区英語スピーチコンテストにおいて、
本校中等部２年生　新井 空さんが６位に入賞しました。

スピーチ内容

“What I Can Do for Tohoku”

On March 11, we will never forget the day when an earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan. About one year and half a year have passed since the Tohoku Earthquake and the death toll from the Earthquake is about 16,000, the missing are still about 3,000. Also, there are about 340,000 people in shelters by the tsunami and Fukushima nuclear power plant now. How do you feel this Earthquake and spend your life every day?

The day of the Earthquake, I was on my way home from school. At first I thought I felt dizziness, but I noticed that it was the Earthquake, seeing an electric wire and a traffic light shaking greatly. I could go home anyway, but I was surprised at watching TV. The big tsunami got over the breakwater and hit the town of the Sanriku coast. A lot of houses and buildings were washed away one after another and this area has been reduced to rubble quickly. Many news special programs of the Earthquake were broadcasted day after day on TV, and I saw a fear of the tsunami with my own eyes. Whenever a series of aftershocks and the death toll increased, I knew the cruelty of this great Earthquake and had a pain in my chest.

On the other hand, some TV programs began to pick up “RECOVER” which are volunteer and fund-raising activities immediately after the Earthquake. Not only volunteers but also victims of the Tohoku Earthquake worked hard to clear rubble, clean the damaged house, and search the missing people together. My feeling felt very warm to see them. In “RECOVER” activity, I was especially impressed that the same age of us that is the local junior high school students worked very hard for Tohoku in the disaster-stricken area. In spite of a number of students suffered from the Tohoku Earthquake and lost their parents, friends, and houses, they kept giving the energy to encourage people and Tohoku. For example, some students made the handmade newspaper to tell the event that happened on the day, and other students helped to clear a heap of rubble and teach studies for the younger children. After seeing the students of the disaster-stricken area, I changed my opinions. I thought that I may be able to do something for Tohoku. “What can I do for Tohoku?”

First, I understood the present condition of the disaster-stricken area and looked over what they need. Although it passed more than one year, there are more necessary things and problems that are rubble disposal, nuclear power plant, emotional care of victims, and so on. Then, I noticed that recently the TV programs of the Earthquake disaster connection and some people who try to save electricity has become less than before. So, I learned to worry about the Earthquake might be fading with time little by little. I thought that the Tohoku Earthquake will never forget as the “history” of Japan and not to waste the death of one by one. I want to tell three things. First, don’t forget the great Earthquake. Second, I want to tell Japan’s Road to “RECOVER” for the next generations. Third, I want people to thank for importance of your life and living. It probably will take so long to “RECOVER”, but I think that I want to do my best “What I can do for Tohoku”.

本校中等部３年の吉野公晴君が、第５２回全国中学校水泳競技大会 ２００ｍ自由形にて１分５７秒７１をマークし、全国１５位の成績を修めました。

県大会から２秒近くタイムを縮めた渾身の泳ぎでした。
