Good on ya mate / on ya

Last time you leaned that “mate” is how we causally refer to our friends.

“Ya” means “you”.

So if this was to be said in proper English then “good on ya mate” = “well done, my friend”.

We often shorten this phase to just “on ya”.

It‘s used a lot in Australia and New Zealand

Example: 

A.

Kevin: “I won the race!”.

John: “(Good) on ya Kevin!”.

B:

I heard you’re going to medical school, good on ya mate.

Meaning: well done, I approve, that’s a good idea.
