今年度から名前をE.F.L.からE.C.（English Communication）と改めて始まった英国人による週４時間の授業―Speaking とListeningを中心に授業を進め、ネイティブスピーカーによる「使える英語」の習得を目指して様々な工夫をしています。

今学期はその第２段階として生徒たちを近くの村に連れ出しました。

ペアを作って道行く人たちに次から次へと話しかけていきます。

EC Class trip to Cranleigh

 

This term all students from P6 to H2 had the opportunity to visit Cranleigh. Cranleigh is England’s largest village with many shops and facilities and is about 15 minutes from Rikkyo. It gave the pupils the chance to put their English into action and to speak

to residents and shoppers in the village.

 

All students worked with a partner and they all had different tasks to do in the hour they spent in the village. They all needed to ask a passer-by for directions to a particular location and once there find out a piece of information. This involved looking for e.g signs, timetables or price lists and then noting down the answer.

They also carried out a mini survey and asked passers-by about their reason for their trip to Cranleigh and how they travelled there that day.

 

All of the English teachers have learned a foreign language and we are all aware of the amount of confidence needed to speak to a native speaker, especially when you’re just beginning. Because of this we were very impressed with the students, considering it was the first time they had done such tasks. We very much hope the short time they spent that morning goes a long way towards inspiring them that they are successful English speakers, and they can only get even

better.
