本校の音楽教育を３０年以上に渡って導いてきてくださったメンデルスゾーン先生が今学期をもって退職されました。

メンデルスゾーン先生は、1976年にピアノの先生として立教での教員生活をスタート、以来38年間にわたり、持ち前のパワフルでエネルギッシュな人柄で、本校の音楽科を率いてきました。

1977年の創立5周年記念コンサートに始まって、一昨年の創立40周年記念コンサートまで、5年の節目ごとにロンドンのクィーンエリザベスホールやウィグモアホールなど、由緒あるコンサートホールでのスクールコンサートをプロデュースし、普段の授業はもちろん、学期末のスクールコンサートや地元の音楽祭への参加など、その情熱で常に本校の音楽活動を支えてきたメンデルスゾーン先生。現役の生徒はもちろん、多くの卒業生達も彼女の音楽に対する熱い思いに共感し、本校での音楽活動を満喫してきたことと思います。

引退にあたり卒業終業礼拝で生徒から綺麗な花束が渡され、スタッフ一同からは置時計のプレゼントがありました。そのお礼の手紙がメンデルスゾーン先生から届きましたので、以下にご紹介します。

Dear Headmaster

Thank you for the enormous and fabulous bouquet of roses presented to me on Saturday. They are my favourite colours and so beautifully arranged and so many there! I could hardly carry them!

I was so touched by the lovely card and messages from everyone and quite overwhelmed by the fantastic gift of a carriage clock. It is something I have always admired, but never owned, or thought I ever would, and the engraving on the back makes me cry each time I read the lovely message.

Please thank EVERYONE for this most generous gift, which I will treasure forever, along with my wonderful memories of working with you all at Rikkyo. It has been such a privilege.
