Following a series of collaborative activities, including student exchanges, sports fixtures and teacher visits, Collyer’s is delighted to now formalise a close relationship with Rikkyo School in England. Principal, Sally Bromley, and Headmaster, Tadahiro Sato, signed a memorandum of agreement, underlining their commitment to organising future events that help cultural and educational exchange, and allowing both institutions to learn from each other, enriching the student experience.
Dan Lodge, Vice Principal (Quality and Curriculum), has helped cement the collaborative relationship. He explained: “It’s been a pleasure working with our friends at Rikkyo School over the last few years. Many of our staff and students are interested in Japanese language and culture and to have a top Japanese independent school so close is a fantastic opportunity.
“We have learnt a lot from one another through the various visits, activities and discussions that have already been organised and this signing of a commitment to future collaboration gives us a great opportunity to take that joint work further in the future.”
Tadahiro Sato, Headmaster at Rikkyo School, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for our students to develop close, cultural ties with Collyer’s students, and we look forward to the continuing exchange of our two cultures over the coming years.
“Through this collaboration, our students have been given the opportunity to experience a communicative teaching approach which is key to the British educational system. This can only serve to enrich and enhance the educational experience of our students, for which we would like to thank the students and staff at Collyer’s.”
Recent activities have included teachers from Rikkyo spending time in Collyer’s Humanities faculty watching lessons and discussing teaching with staff, Rikkyo and Collyer’s students spending time on both campuses learning about the different approaches to study and a sporting event including football, table tennis and badminton competitions.
Sally Bromley was delighted: “Staff and students at Collyer’s are looking forward to working with our colleagues and friends at Rikkyo School more closely over the coming years.”
