Day five was a Saturday, so the breakfast started a little later than usual. We rode the school bus to our morning destination, Colors to Crayons. It’s an organization that supplies donations to people in need. The students all donated something, and then headed inside to volunteer for the morning. We sorted through 12 large bins of clothing, separating them by quality and type. Several students expressed the desire to return to Japan and do volunteer work.
Lunch was lasagna! And the chocolate cupcakes disappeared very fast.
The afternoon GPL session focused on their preferences, and defining what success is for each person. Every student had a different idea of success, which we wrote on sticky notes and collected on the board to compare and contrast answers.
After dinner we had a recent TJK graduate as a guest speaker. She showed a powerpoint of her college experiences, and gave a detailed explanation on the process of applying to schools in the USA, as well as other advice she wished them to know.
